Computing at St Cuthbert’s

Throughout St Cuthbert's we teach Computing using the iCompute programme of study. Computing has deep links with Mathematics, Science, and Design and Technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of Computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. In Key Stage 2, building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. E-Safety plays a major role in our curriculum, we teach the children how to use the internet safely, and warn them of the dangers of talking to strangers online. Using their understanding of how to navigate technology safely, we encourage the older children to use the internet independently for research purposes throughout the curriculum. At St Cuthbert's our children are also taught basic computer skills right from the very beginning of their time with us. This allows them to learn life skills such as typing , that will benefit them in the greater world.
