Year 6 Match Report – St Cuthbert’s vs St Jude’s

On Tuesday 29th September we faced St Jude’s who had previously beat us 5-3, but we were confident it was going to be a better result this time around.

We started the game with Ben in goal and Joseph W in defence with Mateus. Also we had Karl in left midfield, George in centre midfield and Edward in right midfield. Charlie R and Joseph J played up front. Charlie B and Alfie were substitutes.

The game kicked off and after about two minutes, St Jude’s scored and it was 1-0. Soon after, they followed it up with another goal and that made it 2-0. We played well but struggled to find the back of the net. The half time score was 5-0 to St Judes!

In the second half we still played brilliantly but just couldn’t find the net, with Charlie R hitting the bar and Joe J hitting the post. Soon after St Jude’s were 6-0 up. Alfie then came on for Edward. Then finally we found the net with Joe J getting a great goal, making the score 6-1. Charlie B then came on for Mateus. It was coming to end of the game and just before the referee could blow his whistle St Jude’s got one last goal.  The game ended 7-1 to St Jude’s.

We weren’t too disheartened as we knew we played really well and we look forward to playing St Ann’s, Chertsey on Wednesday 7th October.

Match Report by Kit Newman

St Cuthbert’s 2 St Jude’s 5

It was the first time the year five team had played together and there were mixed emotions of excitement and nervousness as we walked onto the pitch.

St Cuthbert’s PE teacher Mr Taylor asked team captain Kit Newman to lead the warm-up.

We started with a wobble as St Jude’s made a strong attack and almost scored but Fin Phillips halted it at the expense of a corner. It was a good delivery and they headed it just over the bar.

We took the goal kick but they collected the ball and tried a long shot which St Cuthbert’s keeper Keelan Hooley hit away for a corner.

It was another good corner and St Jude’s managed to volley the ball into the net.

We hit straight back and won a corner of our own, which Sam Johnston took beautifully and Freddie Fenton headed into the goal!

Unfortunately almost straight away the visitors played the ball around well and managed to get past Phillips and finish really well.

We got straight back in there and made a strong break but the opposition took the ball. We then dispossessed them and broke through and Fenton scored his second of the game to make it 2-2 just before half-time.

Sadly the visitors scored three more times after the break to go 5-2 up.

We tried to hit back and Josh Moloney cleared the ball to Johnston, who almost made it 5-3 but the keeper booted it up the pitch and the visitors won a corner.

Amani Mujaji got hit in the stomach but managed to clear the ball to Fenton, who shot for goal but he couldn’t complete his hat-trick before the whistle blew for full-time.
