Pupil Parliament
Head Boy and Head Girl
Each year staff choose a girl and boy from Year 6 to take on the responsibility of Head Boy and Head Girl, our school role models. These children liaise with Mrs Rainbow throughout the school year and play a big part in driving pupil voice.
The Head Boy and Head Girl also lead the Celebration Liturgy at the end of the week.
House Captains and Vice Captains
At St Cuthbert's every child, teacher and governor belongs to a house named after different patron saints. Children in Year 6 are elected to be House Captain and are supported by their Vice Captains to role model the behaviours of their patrons. Learn more about St Cuthbert's and our House Saints.
Worship Leaders
Children from Year 2 to Year 6 act as our worship leaders, helping to prepare for acts of worship throughout the school.
Peer Mediators
The aim of peer mediation is for “Peers” to resolve conflict within the school playground using mediation.
The children then take part in a series of training sessions. This training teaches the mediators the correct strategies to resolve conflicts and the importance of listening.
What does the job involve?
Children in the playground, at times, feel they would rather ask a peer mediator to help them resolve their issues in the playground. The mediation process involves two peer mediators sitting in a quiet area with the children involved and finding a resolution. If the mediators feel they are not equipped to deal with the conflict then it is referred to a member of staff. However, our mediators often find that they are able to resolve the situations themselves. Please note that physical altercations are always dealt with by a member of staff.
Mediators are required to keep a record of any conflict resolution that occurs in the playground. There is a form where entries should be logged at the end of every lunch time.
Sports Crew
Our Sports Crew are carefully selected from Year Five. The children complete an application form to show their interest in this role and these are considered by the sport coaches and adults who have worked with these children based on their ability to work with younger children, demonstrate leadership skills and good sportsmanship.
The children are trained first by Active Surrey;
A three hour central training session for pupils to develop leadership, resilience, character and confidence. This will lead to them becoming Sports Crew ambassadors within their school.
- Recognise the skills and qualities of a good leader
- Understand the need to work as a team when completing group activities
- Understand and follow the Mr.NEDD principle
- Learn and deliver PHYSIFUN games to build knowledge of worthwhile activity
- Reflect on delivery through team feedback
The group then have an opportunity to lead sessions at lunchtime to practice their skills. In the Spring Term they can plan and run a festival to gain their silver award.
Some groups in the past have been so committed to their role that they have even gained their gold award by leading a second festival as well as reflecting on their practice.
Wellbeing Ambassadors
Our Wellbeing Ambassadors support children across the school, boosting the confidence and wellbeing of pupils as well as giving them independent strategies for the future. They are available during lunchtimes and have an area within an outdoor classroom where children know they can come for help. The ambassadors have been trained to promote the '5 Ways to Wellbeing' and guide their peers using a range of strategies that they have tried themselves. The children in the school know who the ambassadors are and know they can go to them for advice whenever they feel like they need support.
Eco Warriors
Eco Warriors are chosen in all classrooms and are our ambassadors for keeping the school a tidy place, ensuring lights are switched off when not needed.
Librarians
With our newly refurbished library, our librarians are busy making sure the library stays tidy and children will find books easily.
