Wednesday 15th October - Girl's Football - St. Cuthbert's v St. Jude's

On Wednesday October 15th, the girl’s football team played their first match against St.Judes.

We were all very nervous and it had just started to rain. It was cold but we soon warmed up. After a few stretches, it was kick-off. I passed the ball to Holly and the game began.

In the first 5 mins St.Judes scored, making it 1-0. They scored again 2 mins after that making it 2-0. By this time, we were feeling quite determined to get that ball in that goal. They scored again just before half time, making it 3-0. We were saved by the whistle as Mr. Taylor called us in for a pep talk at Half Time. He told us we needed to mark up and to defend more. He also told us to fight for the ball as they were hungrier than us. The 2nd half kick-off was St .Judes and in the first 5 mins it was down their end and we were nearly scoring goals. The action was going on down St .Jude’s end when Halina kicked the corner, Candela passed to me and we scored!!!

This was a great first game (Thanks Mr. Taylor) and we all can’t wait for our next match.

Match report written by Lila - Year 5/6 Captain.

I would just like to thank Lila for writing this fantastic report and congratulate the girls for a great team effort in particular the second half (as Lila has mentioned) when they took on board my comments at half time. It was a really good display and in the end were unfortunate not to come away with a draw.

The team are next in action on November 13th in a tournament being held at Cleves school.

14th October 2014 - St Cuthbert’s v St. Judes' - Year 5

On the 14th October 2014 St Cuthbert’s year 5 played their first game against rivals St Judes. St Judes kicked off and the game started. St Cuthberts began strongly and played fantastic football. We attacked fiercely but could not get the ball at the back of the net and get the goal we deserved. Ben and Joseph J hit the bar a number of times. Then disaster struck, we conceded a goal but we really did not deserve to go a goal down. Immediately after, Charlie R, right midfield, ran down the wing and scored from the edge of the box and placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal. Brilliant play!!! St Judes were on the counter attack, but luckily Karl saved it and showed his goal keeping talent. Corner kick. It was a dangerous cross but there was no real threat, but then we scored an unlucky own goal. 2-1 to St Judes. Half time.

Second half of the game. We started strongly again, we had a few shots but the strong keeper kept saving the goals. St Judes got another one and it was  3-1  to St Judes. It was against the run of play, then St Judes scored another goal. It was an unfair result, 4-1 to St Judes. Straight after it was a penalty for St Judes, this was a fair decision by the referee. Karl did a double save, first saving the penalty, then the follow up but St Judes still got another goal and it was 5-1. St Cuthberts did get another goal back, Joe, striker, dribbled the ball from the half way line, he looked for space and he took a powerful shot. The score at full time was 5-2.  There were a lot of positives in the game, it was very entertaining and we showed some epic football skills such as pinpoint passing and shooting, we were just unlucky. In my opinion the man of the match was Joseph J as he scored such an outstanding goal. St Cuthbert’s should be proud of the whole team.

I would just like to thank Joseph for writing this great report and congratulate the boys for a good team effort.

Having refereed the boy’s second half they had the chances but sadly didn’t take them and one or two mistakes cost us, but that’s sport!

The boys are in league action at the end of November when Holy Family are the visitors.

Tuesday 13th October - St. Cuthbert's v St.Jude's

This match was our first friendly game of the season and this was a local derby.

Kick off was at 4.00pm and it was a cold damp day, the pitch was a bit wet.

St Jude’s kicked off and immediately scored the first goal of the match.

After that first goal, they continued to get another 13.

Eventually we got one goal back which I scored with a lucky deflection.

It was a total white wash, but this team won the cup last year, hard to beat.

We played well and none of our heads went down. With more training and practise, St Cuthbert’s will definitely get better as a team.

We are trying a new formation for the next match.

On behalf of our team, thank you Mr Taylor.

Match report written by Gabriel - Year 6 Captain.

I would just like to add that the boys gave their all (which is all I ask for) in a very spirited display, and as Gabriel mentioned they never let their heads drop against what was an extremely well organised St Jude’s team.

The team are involved in the annual 7 a side tournament being held early November.
