Year 6 Football Tournament

Year 6 St.Cuthbert’s football tournament

This tournament was held at the Royal Holloway University on the 4th November 2014
We started leaving school at 12.45pm and walked the short distance down to RHU.
It was a beautiful sunny day for this time of year, great for playing football.
When we arrived at the amazing 3G pitches Mr. Taylor set out team and formation for the matches ahead.
The team was
GK – Max RH
DEF – Louie B, Roman B, Andrew F
MID – Seb T, Leo C, Ethan B, Ryan C
ST – Gabby McG

There were 3-4 pools of 4 teams of local based school of similar age groups, in our pool was Ashley, The Hythe, St Anne’s and Thorpe Lea.

First game up for us was against St Anne’s and we lost 0-1, it was a tight game and they got a last minute goal!

The second game was against The Hythe we played a lot better in this game, more passing and movement. Still ended up losing 0-4

Third game against Ashley this was a 0-0 our game was on and opportunities came but didn’t finish! There were attempts on goal from Seb Ethan and I.
There was also a penalty shout and definite handball...no luck went our way.

After every game we had a short break for other teams to play, during this last break the weather turned badly, and it rained buckets….then thunder & lighting.
The matches where postponed while it rained heavily just as we where about to kick off. We all took shelter in the main building, well under a walk way, it seems like hours stranding there shivering, freezing, cold and dripping wet.
Mr. Taylor was told by one of the organizers to get back onto the pitch to finish the final game against Thorpe Lea.
Some of the players I knew from my playing days at Manorcroft United FC few years ago,
I wanted to do well in this game and at least score for St Cuthbert’s not to be as the game ended 0-2. It was a sad ending to a great day but we tried our best and will do better in the next games to come.
